We are excited to announce this year’s beneficiary: San Antonio Young Women’s Leadership Academy (SAYWLA).

The mission of San Antonio Young Women’s Leadership Academy (SAYWLA) is to support young women who seek a college preparatory public education that will provide them the academic skills to achieve success in college and life by thinking critically, leading purposefully, and living healthy and responsible lives.

San Antonio’s first all-girls public school, SAYWLA opened in August 2008 as a tuition-free, college preparatory school that focuses on math, science, and technology - fields in which women are typically underrepresented - and as an internal charter school within the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD.)

SAYWLA is part of the Young Women's Preparatory Network, a Dallas-based nonprofit organization that partners with public school districts to operate the country’s largest network of all-girls, public, college-preparatory schools.

SAYWLA serves female students from 6th – 12th grade throughout Bexar County.

Planning is underway for 2025, and we are currently accepting nominations for candidates to fill positions on our Board of Directors. We are looking for candidates who want to serve this great organization and work alongside amazing women!

Candidates must be current BCWB members, but no board experience is necessary. We believe that diversity and inclusion in our leadership and programs are essential, as reflected in our DEI Committee Mission Statement below, and recognize that it is crucial for our Board to reflect a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives.

The organizations will sponsor a casual lunch for approximately 45 young women attending the Fox Tech Law Magnet Program, in which the students will have an opportunity to discuss career options and guidance with women who are in a variety of legal-related professions. The luncheon will begin with several inspiring speakers from different legal fields who will address the whole group, telling their career story.

After the presentations our “mentors” will then have a chance to talk to the young women and answer questions or share stories about their path to their careers.

Lunch will be provided free of charge. We ask that all women attorneys, para-professionals, and women in law-related fields consider attending this great mentoring event and help recruit other attendees.
